Our Story

It all started in the kitchen when I was a little girl. I was always helping my mother make cookies and desserts, and one year wanted to make a lamb cake for Easter. It was the coolest thing we had ever made and I was hooked! My mom saw how much I loved it and gave me a large cake decorating set from Wilton. I would practice making roses for hours.

Over the years I would occasionally make cakes for friends and family. My first "professional" job was for my brother Erik's wedding in 2001. Soon thereafter, people started hiring me to do their cakes and so TotallyBaked.com was born. However, making cakes was only part of what I wanted to do.

After experimenting with candy recipes, I decided to give some as Christmas gifts to my co-workers. Everyone told me that it was the best candy they had ever tasted and that I should sell the stuff! I thought "What a great idea!" Those recipes turned into the Almond Toffee and Caramels with Pecans (Now called Heavenly Clusters) that I sell today.

With the encouragement of my husband, Thomas, in 2008 I started Amy Peterson Chocolates and began working out of a bakery in Westchester, Illinois. In the spring of 2009, we moved closer to home and into a wonderful bakery in New Lenox, Illinois called The Cake Box.
